Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna is hosting a three-day Craft Bazaar and Spectrum 2026 at its campus in Mithapur Farms from March 12 to 14. Organised under the Ministry of Textiles, the event aims to celebrate Bihar’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions while providing a creative platform for students to showcase their talents.
The Craft Bazaar brings artisans, designers, students and visitors together in one space, allowing direct interaction between craft producers and potential buyers. The initiative is designed to strengthen market connections for artisans and raise awareness about India’s diverse craft heritage.
Col. Rahul Sharma, director of NIFT Patna, said the institute is committed to connecting traditional craftsmanship with modern design education. He added that the event encourages collaboration between artisans and young designers so that both groups can learn from each other.
A major highlight of the bazaar is the participation of 17 national and state award-winning artisans. Visitors can explore and purchase a wide variety of traditional products including Madhubani paintings, Bhagalpuri silk textiles, Manjusha paintings, Sujani embroidery, Sikki craft, Tikuli art, bamboo and cane products, and lac bangles. Since the event takes place during the month that marks International Women’s Day, special emphasis has been given to stalls run by women artisans and entrepreneurs.
The event also features an interactive Batik printing workshop, where students, faculty members and visitors can learn the traditional textile printing technique through hands-on activities. The workshop aims to deepen understanding of craft processes and inspire future designers to work with traditional methods.
Alongside the bazaar, Spectrum 2026 offers a vibrant lineup of student-led cultural events. Activities on the second day include face painting, a wearable art fashion walk, dance drama, group dance performances, a band performance, flash mobs and a DJ night. These events showcase the creativity and diverse talents of NIFT students.
According to the organisers, the combined celebration of Craft Bazaar and Spectrum reflects the institute’s wider vision of preserving India’s cultural heritage while encouraging innovation in design. By bringing artisans and students together, NIFT Patna hopes to strengthen appreciation for traditional crafts and create new opportunities for the next generation of designers.
