Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, on Wednesday began its three-day Orientation Programme 2026, welcoming 201 newly admitted students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The orientation, being held from July 29 to 31, is designed to familiarise students with the institute’s academic framework, campus facilities and student support systems before the commencement of the academic session.
The inaugural day included student registration, document verification, distribution of welcome kits, interactions with campus coordinators and an address by the Campus Director. Parents also attended the programme and were introduced to the institute’s academic environment and student life.
This year’s batch includes students admitted through the Artisans Quota, reflecting NIFT’s efforts to promote greater inclusion and improve access to quality design education for traditional artisan communities.
Director Urges Students To Embrace Innovation
Addressing the incoming students and their families, Col Rahul Sharma, Director of NIFT Patna, encouraged students to pursue creativity, innovation, discipline and professionalism throughout their academic journey.
He said NIFT was more than a fashion education institution, describing it as a platform that nurtures leadership, entrepreneurship and socially responsible design professionals.
Sharma also underlined the importance of preserving India’s craft heritage while preparing students to contribute to the global fashion and design industry through ethical practices, sustainability and innovation.
Cultural Performance Marks Opening Day
The first day’s programme concluded with a cultural performance organised in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, featuring the traditional Gotipua dance of Odisha.
The performance, known for its graceful movements and acrobatic elements, introduced students to India’s rich artistic traditions and received an enthusiastic response from students, parents, faculty members and staff.
The cultural presentation set the tone for the remaining sessions of the orientation programme, reinforcing NIFT’s emphasis on blending academic excellence with an appreciation of India’s diverse cultural heritage.
