Patna: Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, is set to begin his entry into active politics on March 8, with a statewide tour planned after he formally joins the Janata Dal (United).
According to the party’s chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar, Nishant will travel across Bihar to interact with people and party workers, echoing the outreach tours undertaken by his father during his political career.
Party leaders say the tour is intended to introduce Nishant to the public and strengthen grassroots engagement for the ruling party in the state.
Following Nitish Kumar’s Political Model
Senior leaders in the party have drawn parallels between Nishant’s planned outreach and the extensive tours conducted by Nitish Kumar over the years. According to party figures, the chief minister has undertaken multiple statewide visits to monitor development projects and public programmes.
During his tenure, Nitish Kumar oversaw initiatives including the women’s self-help group network known as Jeevika, and introduced policies aimed at women’s empowerment. Party leaders have often cited feedback from Jeevika members as influential in the state government’s decision to implement prohibition in Bihar.
Nishant’s upcoming tour is being presented by the party as a continuation of that outreach-driven political style.
Expectations within the party
Leaders in the Janata Dal (United) say Nishant’s entry into politics has generated enthusiasm among party members. Some within the party believe he could eventually play a key leadership role among the party’s legislators and parliamentarians.
Nishant has largely stayed away from active politics and the public spotlight until now. However, party leaders say he has agreed to take on a more direct political role.
A low-profile public figure
Born on July 20, 1975, Nishant Kumar received his early education at St Karen’s School and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Patna before completing his schooling at Manav Bharti India International School in Mussoorie. He later graduated in software engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in Ranchi.
