Patna: Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, held a meeting with several Janata Dal (United) MLAs ahead of formally joining the party on Sunday, as party leaders signalled support for his entry into state politics.
A poster displayed outside the JD(U) state office in Patna congratulated Nishant Kumar and described his political debut as “the beginning of a new chapter of a developed Bihar”. The poster also carried a message highlighting “young thinking” and a “new clarion call for development” under his leadership. His expected entry into the party has reportedly generated enthusiasm among several leaders and party workers.
Although Nishant Kumar is scheduled to formally join the JD(U) on March 8, he has already begun engaging with party leaders. According to party sources, he met around 24 MLAs at the residence of JD(U) national executive president Sanjay Jha.
The meeting was attended by Jha, Bihar transport minister Shrawon Kumar, senior party leaders and more than a dozen younger MLAs.
During the discussions, Nishant Kumar reportedly spoke with senior leaders about strategies to strengthen the party and expand its outreach. He also held conversations with younger legislators on increasing youth participation in the party and ensuring the effective implementation of development plans in Bihar. Party leaders indicated that Nishant Kumar may begin touring the state soon after officially joining the JD(U).

Meanwhile, chief minister Nitish Kumar is scheduled to visit Bakhtiyarpur. The visit comes shortly after he filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha.
During the trip, the chief minister is expected to inspect the engineering college in Bakhtiyarpur and review ongoing development works in the region. Officials said he will also visit several other sites to assess the progress of projects and provide directions to the authorities overseeing them.
