Patna: A special screening of the film Haq was organised in Patna on Saturday to mark International Women’s Day, bringing together officials, art enthusiasts and members of the public for a discussion on women’s rights and empowerment.
The event was hosted by the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation Limited under the state’s arts and culture department at Regent Cinema near Gandhi Maidan. The programme began at 11:30am and saw a large turnout of viewers and invited guests.
At the start of the event, Krishna Kumar, director of the museum directorate, welcomed Ruby, IAS, general manager of the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation Limited, by presenting her with a bouquet. Dr Ajay Singh, assistant director and information and public relations officer, later welcomed Kumar in a similar gesture.
Addressing the gathering, Ruby said women should not depend solely on men for their dignity and rights, and emphasised the need for women to support and uplift one another.

She said genuine empowerment could only be achieved when women move forward with mutual respect and cooperation, and extended her wishes to the audience on International Women’s Day.
Krishna Kumar also addressed the audience, highlighting that ensuring the safety and dignity of women is a shared responsibility of society. He said the issue of women’s empowerment should not be seen as a concern for women alone but as a collective social commitment.
Reflecting on a personal note, he said the day held special significance for him as a father of two daughters and stressed the importance of creating a society where girls can grow up safely and with confidence.

The programme featured the screening of Haq, directed by Shurn Verma and produced by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta, Harman Baweja and Vicky Jain. The film explores themes of women’s rights, social challenges and the struggle for dignity and justice.
After the screening, members of the audience praised the film for its strong message on women’s empowerment and its portrayal of social realities.
Several officials and staff from the department, along with members of the public, attended the event. The programme was hosted by Arvind Ranjan Das, who served as the compere for the occasion.
