Patna: Nitish Kumar is preparing to move out of the chief minister’s official residence at 1 Anne Marg in Patna, which has served as the centre of political power in Bihar for nearly two decades.
After being elected to the Rajya Sabha, the senior Janata Dal (United) leader is expected to relocate to a government bungalow at 7 Circular Road, a high-security residential complex in the city’s VIP zone.
The residence at 7 Circular Road is not unfamiliar to Nitish. He has lived in the complex during earlier phases of his political career, including during his tenure as a Union minister. As a result, he is already familiar with the staff, systems and environment of the residence.
The Circular Road complex houses government bungalows built for former chief ministers and other senior political leaders. It is considered one of the most secure residential zones in Patna, with high boundary walls, controlled entry gates and extensive CCTV surveillance across the premises. Police personnel and specialised security units are deployed throughout the area.
Authorities have also established separate entry points and security arrangements for visitors, a measure expected to be further tightened given Nitish’s status as a senior national political figure.

The bungalow itself is a sprawling property featuring a main residential building surrounded by expansive lawns in the front and rear. At the centre of the lawn is a pond-like structure where ritual offerings are traditionally made during Chhath Puja.
The complex is surrounded by trees and greenery and includes a dedicated garden and walking areas. Known for his preference for a simple lifestyle and green surroundings, Nitish is said to find the environment well suited to his routine.
The residence also includes designated spaces for meetings with political leaders and government officials, along with a waiting area for visitors. A separate hall has been created for formal discussions and consultations.
Facilities have also been arranged for media briefings and political meetings, allowing Nitish to continue his political engagements and interactions even after taking his seat in the Rajya Sabha.
Separate accommodation within the complex has been allocated for staff and security personnel. Barracks for security forces, quarters for domestic staff and designated areas for drivers and vehicle staff have been built to ensure operational efficiency while maintaining the privacy of the main residence.
As a VVIP residence, the property is equipped with modern infrastructure, including high-speed communication and internet facilities, meeting and video conferencing arrangements, dedicated parking spaces and vehicle movement areas, as well as power backup systems and generators.
