Patna: A poster projecting Nishant Kumar as the “future chief minister of Bihar” has appeared outside the Janata Dal (United) office in Patna, fuelling fresh speculation over succession in the state’s leadership.
The poster, put up ahead of Nitish Kumar taking oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha in Delhi, claims that the chief minister’s “unfinished mission” can only be completed by his son. It appeals to him not to “leave the people of Bihar orphaned”, asking who else could provide “security, assurance and unwavering support”.
Featuring images of both father and son, the poster positions Nishant Kumar as the political successor and calls for his elevation to the top post. Similar posters in recent months have sustained demands from some supporters for a larger political role for him.
The development comes amid heightened political activity in Bihar, with discussions intensifying over the formation of the next government and the question of leadership. Nitish Kumar’s move to the upper house is being closely watched for its wider implications.
A meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s core committee is also scheduled in Delhi, where senior leaders are expected to deliberate on government formation in Bihar and possible chief ministerial candidates. Deputy chief ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have reached the capital and are set to attend both the oath-taking ceremony and the party meeting.
Additionally, BJP national president Nitin Nabin is also expected to take oath in the Rajya Sabha, adding to the political significance of the day.
While there has been no official confirmation from the ruling alliance on any leadership change, the poster has added to the growing political buzz, highlighting ongoing uncertainty over Bihar’s future leadership.
