Patna: BJP national president Nitin Nabin has resigned as the MLA from the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna, setting aside rumours over any delay in the same following his recent election as Rajya Sabha member.
Nabin submitted his resignation to state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi on Sunday before leaving for Assam, amid speculation surrounding his sudden departure.
In a statement posted on social media, Nabin reflected on his political journey, which began in 2006 after he was elected in a by-election from the then Patna West constituency following the death of his father, former minister Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha.
He said he had worked continuously for the development of his constituency and Bihar over the past 20 years and expressed gratitude to voters for electing him to the legislative assembly five consecutive times.
Nabin also acknowledged the support of party workers and credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar for giving him the opportunity to serve as a minister in the state government.

Announcing his resignation, he said he would continue to work for the development of Bihar in his new role within the party, reiterating his commitment to the vision of a “developed India” and “developed Bihar” by 2047.
Sanjay Saraogi said the resignation would be forwarded through due process, adding that Nabin’s visit to Assam was part of his organisational responsibilities.
Meanwhile, chief minister Nitish Kumar is also expected to resign from his membership of the legislative council in line with constitutional requirements following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
Officials said a meeting of senior Janata Dal (United) leaders was under way at the chief minister’s residence ahead of the formal submission of his resignation. Nitish is likely to hand over his resignation at the chief residence- 1, Anney Marg itself.
