Patna : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday expressed his frustration over the opposition’s uproar in the Legislative Assembly during the ongoing budget session. The proceedings were marred by protests, with opposition members raising slogans and displaying posters as soon as the House convened.
Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav urged the members from Left parties to return to their seats and instructed marshals to confiscate the posters. However, the demonstrations persisted, disrupting the Question Hour.
The Chief Minister, visibly irritated by the continued sloganeering, directly addressed the opposition, calling their behaviour inappropriate. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary initially appealed to the Speaker to maintain order but, as the chaos continued, Kumar himself intervened, urging the members to allow the House to function smoothly. He offered to consider their concerns if they were submitted in writing, questioning the necessity of such disruptions. The opposition eventually quietened down.
Thursday also saw the presentation of the Third Supplementary Budget, estimated to be around Rs50,000 crore. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary introduced the budget, which is expected to focus on commitments made by Kumar during his recent state-wide tour.
The opposition, meanwhile, is preparing to challenge the government on key issues such as law and order, rising crime rates, and unemployment. With tensions running high, further confrontations in the Assembly seem likely as the session progresses.
