Patna: Nitish Kumar has left for Delhi where he is scheduled to take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10, amid mounting political activity in Bihar over the formation of a new government.
Leaders from the ruling alliance, including Sanjay Jha and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, are expected to attend the ceremony alongside representatives from both the BJP and the Janata Dal (United).
Jha, the JD(U) working president, said Kumar is likely to take the oath at around 12:15pm and will return to Patna shortly after. He added that the process of forming a new government in Bihar would begin only after April 13.
The timing has drawn attention in political circles, where discussions over a possible government reshuffle have intensified following the end of Kharmas, a period considered inauspicious in the Hindu calendar.
Speaking before departing for Delhi, Chaudhary said Kumar remains in office and has not yet resigned. “Further developments will take place only after his resignation,” he said.
Union minister Ram Kripal Yadav also addressed reporters, downplaying speculation around BJP leader Samrat Choudhary’s visit to Delhi. “He visits the capital frequently; there is nothing unusual about it,” he said.
According to party sources, once Kumar tenders his resignation, a meeting of the NDA legislative party will be convened to elect a new leader. The chosen leader will then stake claim to form the government and present it before the governor.
Political observers suggest the developments are unfolding along a pre-planned timeline, with key steps in the transition expected to follow in quick succession after April 13.
