Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s health has reportedly deteriorated, leading to the cancellation of all his scheduled public programs on Sunday, including the foundation stone laying of multiple high-value development projects in Patna.
The chief minister was due to participate in ceremonies for six projects across the city, most notably a Rs 328.52 crore power modernisation initiative. Under this scheme, more than 600 kilometres of electricity cables are set to be laid underground, and four new power substations will be constructed. The event had been scheduled for 3.30pm at Dakbungla Chauraha.
In the first phase, underground cabling will cover key areas including Dak Bungalow, Fraser Road, Patna Junction, Gandhi Maidan, SP Verma Road, Jamal Road, and Exhibition Road, with completion expected within two years. The project had originally been announced by Kumar during his Pragati Yatra.
In addition to the power project, the chief minister was to inaugurate the construction of “JP Ganga Path Samagra Udyan” (Phase-1), a 7 km development along both sides of JP Ganga Path from Digha to Gandhi Maidan, costing Rs 387.40 crore. Other projects included a four-lane road with an underground drain along the Serpentine drain from Patel Golambar to Atal Path (Rs 196.80 crore), a connecting road from Mandiri Nala to JP Ganga Path (Rs 52.28 crore), and infrastructure upgrades near Sabhyata Dwar and Patna Haat, including parking facilities (Rs 59.68 crore). University and college hostels across Patna were also slated for renovations with Rs 30.02 crore in funding.
