Patna: The election for the post of national president of the Janata Dal (United) is poised to confirm Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s continued leadership of the party. Kumar is expected to file his nomination Today, in what is widely seen as a formality given the absence of any serious challengers.
Elections at the state and district levels have already been completed, leaving only the national presidential poll pending. The party has finalised all preparations, and observers say no major changes are anticipated in the leadership.
Under the official schedule, nominations can be submitted until March 22, with scrutiny of papers scheduled for March 23. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is March 24.
Umesh Singh Kushwaha, JD(U) state president, said that it was the “unanimous wish” of party workers for Kumar to continue in the role. “The command of the party has been in his hands for a long time, and under his leadership, the organisation has grown stronger,” Kushwaha added.
Sources within the party confirmed that Kumar’s nomination papers have already been prepared for formal submission, signalling a smooth and uncontested process. Party insiders describe the exercise as largely procedural, reflecting a desire for continuity and stability in leadership amid the current political landscape.
With no other candidate expected to come forward, it is widely anticipated that he will be re-elected unopposed, consolidating his long-standing position at the helm of the JD(U).
