Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the ‘Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad Vihar Gaurav Udyan’, a Waste-to-Wonder theme park to be developed at a cost of Rs 14.98 crore. The park, themed around recycling and Bihar’s historical heritage, will be located on a 10-acre plot between the Samadhi Sthal of India’s first President and the JP Ganga Path in Patna.
Prior to unveiling the foundation plaque, Kumar paid floral tribute at the memorial site of Dr Rajendra Prasad. Addressing those present, the Chief Minister said the park would be developed to complement the solemnity of the Samadhi Sthal and enhance the scenic beauty of the adjacent JP Ganga Path. “The local people will benefit immensely from this initiative,” he said.

Approved by the Urban Development and Housing Department, the park will feature installations crafted from recycled waste, celebrating the lives and contributions of iconic figures such as Aryabhatta, Chanakya, Emperor Ashoka, Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, and Dashrath Manjhi. It will also showcase Bihar’s architectural legacy — including representations of Nalanda and Vikramshila universities, stupas, temples, and mausoleums.
Provisions for food stalls, a playground for children, and recreational facilities for tourists have been included in the plan. A grand memorial complex in honour of Dr Rajendra Prasad will also be constructed at his existing memorial site.
A video presentation outlining the proposed park’s vision and features was shown to the Chief Minister during the ceremony.
