No Sand Shortage in Bihar This Monsoon, Assures CM Nitish Kumar

The Bihar government has made early arrangements to ensure sand is available during the four-month mining ban.

Patna: The Bihar government has announced that there will be no shortage of sand during the monsoon season. From 15 June to 15 October, sand mining in rivers will be stopped due to orders from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). This is done every year to protect aquatic life and the environment. But this year, the government has made sure that people and builders will not face any trouble.

To avoid problems, the Mines and Geology Department started storing sand in May. Sand from 180 river ghats, including 18 white sand ghats, has been collected and kept at special storage places called secondary loading sites. These sites will now be checked using drones to measure how much sand is available. After that, the sand will be sold at fixed prices, helping both the public and the government.

The government has also set up strong monitoring systems at these storage sites. CCTV cameras have been installed, and all sites are fenced so that vehicles can only enter and exit through one gate. This will help prevent illegal sand mining and smuggling. The camera footage will be saved for up to 30 days to keep track of all activities.

Sand traders have been told to keep enough stock during the ban. This will help stop black marketing and make sure sand is available for construction work. The state government believes that these efforts will keep sand supply smooth and prices under control, even while mining is stopped.
