Patna: Patna city authorities have announced a sweeping crackdown on illegal parking and roadside encroachments as part of “Operation Bulldozer”, set to begin on December 1. Service lanes will no longer be used as parking zones and footpaths are to be cleared exclusively for pedestrian use.
Patna divisional commissioner, Animesh Kumar Parashar, reviewed the campaign with officials and instructed them to remain “in action mode” to tackle worsening traffic congestion in the city. He directed that roadside vehicle repair garages must cease operations by November 30, and notices will be issued to garage operators and vehicle owners within the next two days.
From December 1, old vehicles abandoned along roadsides will be removed, and any vehicle found illegally parked will be seized and fined. Violations including encroachment, illegal parking and wrong-side driving will be monitored through CCTV, with spot penalties imposed.
“The operation must be effective and continuous,” Parashar told officials, urging regular road patrols and strict compliance monitoring. The Traffic Superintendent will oversee enforcement.
Footpaths to be cleared
Emphasising pedestrian safety, Parashar instructed all departments to ensure footpaths remain unobstructed. He said frequent inspections should be carried out and encroachments cleared to improve urban mobility.
Encroachment removal to continue
The commissioner also stressed that action against both temporary and permanent encroachments is already under way on major roads including Nehru Path, Gandhi Maidan, Bairia, Ashoka Rajpath and Atal Path. Officials were asked to identify permanent structures obstructing traffic and remove them where necessary.
The meeting further discussed regulation of e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws to ensure smoother road operations.
The divisional commissioner was joined by DM Dr Thiyagarajan SM, SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, and senior officials from other departments.
