Muzaffarpur: Muzaffarpur district is set to get its long-awaited airport as the Bihar government announced that the tender process for Patahi airport will be completed within a week. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary confirmed that all necessary procedures have been finished and said the project is a top priority for the NDA government. “The development of Patahi airport is one of our key commitments. Bihar has picked up speed, and Muzaffarpur is now a preferred destination for setting up industries,” Chaudhary said while speaking about the state’s infrastructure push.
The project has been under discussion for years, but recent developments suggest that air service from Patahi airport may soon become a reality. According to officials, preparations are underway to start flights with 19-seater aircraft. A survey has already been conducted, and a three-member inspection team from Delhi and Patna visited the site to examine its technical feasibility.
Patahi airport is located on 101 acres of land, which means no additional land acquisition will be required for the first phase of operations. The government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for renovation work, which will include repairing the boundary wall, revamping the premises and ensuring the runway is in flying condition. Officials said the current 1,300-metre runway is sufficient for small aircraft, but it will be repaired and upgraded for safe operations.
The inspection team also studied the surrounding areas to ensure that buildings near the airport would not obstruct flight paths. Once the renovation is complete, Muzaffarpur is expected to get direct air connectivity, which traders and local residents say could significantly boost the district’s economy. “This project has been pending for too long. If flights finally start, it will save time and attract investment,” said a local businessman.
With Bihar pushing for faster infrastructure growth, the launch of commercial flights from Patahi airport could mark a major milestone for Muzaffarpur, connecting it directly with major cities and strengthening its position as a business hub in North Bihar.
