Patna: Traffic movement in parts of Patliputra will be diverted for nearly two weeks as BUIDCO begins key construction work under the Digha-Kankarbagh Sewerage Project ahead of the 2026 monsoon. The temporary changes will be in effect from May 18 to May 30, according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
The agency said the work is part of efforts to complete critical sewerage infrastructure before the rainy season, when several low-lying areas of the city typically face waterlogging and sanitation problems. Officials said the project is intended to improve drainage and provide a long-term solution to sewage overflow during monsoon months.
Diversions Announced
Under the revised traffic plan, general vehicle movement from the BIADA Gate near the Rajiv Nagar underpass will remain completely suspended during the construction period. Commuters travelling through the stretch have been advised to use BIADA Road and proceed towards Atal Path as the designated alternative route.
In addition, vehicle movement on the service lane of Atal Path between A.N. College and the Rajiv Nagar underpass will also remain restricted. The diversion has been introduced to allow uninterrupted civil work on the sewerage network along the route.
Officials Direct Fast Completion
Animesh Kumar Parashar, managing director of BUIDCO, said officials had been instructed to complete the work on a war footing to minimise disruption. He said the agency had asked all concerned departments to ensure the construction is finished before the arrival of heavy monsoon rainfall.
Authorities said traffic police personnel would be deployed to manage vehicle movement in the affected areas and guide motorists through the alternative routes.
Public Advisory
BUIDCO has asked residents and commuters to follow the diversion plan and comply with directions issued by traffic police during the 12-day period. The agency said the restrictions were temporary and necessary in the larger public interest to complete the sewerage work before the monsoon.
Officials added that the inconvenience caused by the diversions was regretted, but said the project was essential for improving civic infrastructure and reducing recurring waterlogging in the city.
