Patna: Authorities in Patna have moved ahead with plans for a new four-lane road linking R-Block to Patna Junction, in a bid to ease mounting traffic pressure in the state capital.
The state’s road construction department has fast-tracked work on the proposed corridor, which is expected to cost about Rs 256 crore. Officials said a feasibility report has already been prepared and further procedural steps are under way.
The project is being positioned as a long-term solution to congestion along one of the city’s busiest stretches, where daily gridlock has become a persistent concern for commuters. Authorities claim the expanded roadway will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time between key administrative and transport hubs.
As part of a broader review of the city’s infrastructure, the department’s secretary, Pankaj Kumar Pal, carried out inspections across several major roads and flyovers. During the visit, he directed officials to strengthen traffic management systems and improve overall road quality.
The inspection also covered routes including JP Ganga Path, Atal Path and Patli Path, as well as areas such as Raja Bazar and Rupaspur.
Officials were instructed to address technical faults identified on Atal Path and Nehru Path within 15 days, while issues affecting the approach sections of several flyovers are to be resolved immediately.
A stricter deadline has been set for structural concerns, including approach settlement near the Shivpuri Flyover, Digha Flyover and Kurji Bridge, with authorities given between three and 10 days to complete repairs.
Particular attention was paid to recurring congestion at the exit of the Raja Bazar flyover. Officials visited the site and ordered the development of a targeted plan to address bottlenecks in the area.
