Patna: In a move aimed at reducing pollution and preserving the city’s water bodies, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun preparations for Saraswati Puja by constructing special artificial ponds for idol immersions. Officials have warned that individuals who immerse idols outside these designated sites will face fines.
Seven artificial ponds are being built across various ghats in Patna to ensure environmentally safe disposal of idols and other puja materials. The initiative is part of a broader cleanliness drive to protect the Ganga and other local water bodies from contamination.
“The focus is on celebrating Saraswati Puja with environmental responsibility,” said Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena. “We are taking all necessary steps to keep water bodies clean and safe.”
PMC teams will also promote a plastic-free campaign at the ghats, urging devotees and puja committees to avoid plastics, polythene, and other non-biodegradable materials.
The artificial ponds have been allocated across the city as follows:
- Patliputra Zone: Patipul Ghat and Minar Ghat
- Azimabad Zone: Bhadra Ghat and Mitan Ghat
- Bankipur: Law College Ghat
- Patna City: Kangan Ghat and Damrahi Ghat
The municipal corporation has appealed to the public to adhere strictly to the designated immersion sites to ensure a clean and eco-friendly Saraswati Puja.
