Patna: Authorities in Patna have begun a series of awareness and loan camps aimed at accelerating enrolment in the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, as part of a broader push to expand access to clean energy at the household level.
The district administration, working in partnership with Punjab National Bank, is organising “loan fair-cum-awareness camps” across sub-divisions, where residents can apply for bank financing to install rooftop solar systems.
Officials said the camps would be held in Barh on May 7, followed by Paliganj on May 8 and Masaurhi on May 9. Alongside providing information about the scheme, banks will accept loan applications on site, with assurances that cases will be processed on a fast-track basis.
The initiative comes amid efforts by local authorities to widen participation in the federal scheme, which seeks to reduce household electricity costs while promoting renewable energy adoption. The district magistrate, Dr Thiyagarajan S.M., has directed officials to maximise enrolment and ensure administrative support throughout the process.
A senior deputy collector has been appointed as nodal officer to oversee the campaign, coordinating between administrative departments and financial institutions.
Officials said representatives from the administration, banking sector, and electricity department would be required to attend the camps. Pending applications related to the scheme are also expected to be resolved on the spot.
The administration has urged residents to attend the camps at their respective sub-divisional headquarters, describing the initiative as a step towards increasing solar adoption and reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
