Patna: A zonal permit system for auto-rickshaws in Patna is expected to begin by the end of January, according to district transport officials, with full implementation likely from February or March. The new framework divides the city into three operational zones — Green, Yellow, and Blue — and replaces the earlier urban and rural permit model.
Under the current rules, vehicles with an urban permit can operate across the city. The revised structure designates specific zones for movement, with approximately 22,000 autos eligible for allocation.
How Many Autos Per Zone?
Green Zone: 10,299 autos
Routes include Nala Road to Patna Junction, Buddha Smriti Park to Khemnichak, Gandhi Maidan to Patna City, Tata Park to Hanuman Nagar, and routes between Gaighat, Rajendra Nagar, ISBT, and Hajipur.
Yellow Zone: 7,632 autos
Key stretches include Saguna Mor to Kurji Mor and Rupaspur, Gandhi Maidan to Danapur, Boring Road to Patna Junction, Aashiyana Mor to Digha, Digha Bridge to Sonepur, and Hajipur.
Blue Zone: 4,134 autos
Coverage includes GPO to Khagaul, Anisabad to ISBT, Phulwarisharif to Jagdeopath, Mithapur to Punpun, and Agamkuan to ISBT Bairiya.
Officials say the system aims to reduce congestion, regulate passenger movement, and prevent unlicensed cross-zone operations. Applications for permits are expected to be processed over several weeks, with allocations finalised by the end of January.
