Patna: The Government Ayurvedic College Hospital in Patna is preparing to join the Ayushman scheme, with the hospital administration having sent a proposal to the Health Department for consideration.
The move comes amid rising patient numbers at the hospital, which sees around 500 to 600 patients in its outpatient department (OPD) every day. The 250-bed inpatient facility also records an average occupancy of around 70 per cent.
More Than 1.41 Lakh OPD Visits In 2025
According to hospital principal Dr Kumari Uma Pandey, a total of 1,41,592 patients visited the OPD between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
The hospital has shared the patient data with the Health Department as part of its proposal to be brought under the Ayushman scheme. If approved, eligible patients could receive financial assistance for covered treatments at the hospital.
The proposal is currently awaiting a decision from the Health Department. The hospital has not yet been formally included in the scheme.
Ayushman Inclusion Proposed Amid Rising Demand
The hospital administration said the growing number of patients has strengthened the case for expanding access to financial assistance. Inclusion in the Ayushman scheme would allow eligible beneficiaries to access covered treatment under the scheme, subject to its applicable rules and package provisions.
The hospital currently operates a 250-bed inpatient facility, with around 70 per cent of the beds generally occupied.
National Ayurveda Day Events Underway
Meanwhile, the hospital is organising a series of programmes as part of the 11th National Ayurveda Day celebrations. The activities began on September 16 and will continue until September 23.
The main National Ayurveda Day programme will be held at Gyan Bhawan in Patna on September 23 with support from the State Health Society. The programme will include activities related to Ayurveda and its healthcare practices.
Free Health Camp On September 19
A health camp will also be organised on September 19 at Referral Hospital Naubatpur and the Ayurvedic hospital.
Patients attending the camp will receive free health check-ups. The programme will also include Prakriti Parikshan, an Ayurvedic assessment of an individual’s constitution.
The proposed Ayushman inclusion and the ongoing Ayurveda Day activities come as the hospital continues to handle a substantial daily patient load.
