Patna: In a major move to tackle chronic traffic congestion, the Patna Traffic Police has imposed a complete ban on the entry of commercial and heavy vehicles into the city during peak hours.

Under the new traffic regulation, all commercial and heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city between 9 am and 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, and 5 pm and 8 pm every day. The restriction applies to all vehicles, including those holding special entry passes.

The decision has been taken to reduce vehicular pressure on city roads and improve traffic flow during the busiest hours of the day.

The ban covers trucks, Hyva dump trucks, pickup vehicles, tractors, concrete mixer trucks and other construction machinery. Acting on the directions of Traffic Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagar Kumar, traffic personnel have intensified enforcement in key congestion-prone areas, including Gandhi Maidan, Rajiv Nagar and Nehru Path.

On the very first day of the special enforcement drive, traffic police seized eight concrete mixer trucks and several other heavy vehicles for violating the new restrictions.

In addition, action has been initiated against e-rickshaws parked illegally along roadsides, as they are also contributing to traffic bottlenecks.

Traffic police have issued strict instructions to all city check posts to ensure that no commercial or heavy vehicle is allowed to enter Patna during the notified no-entry hours under any circumstances.

Officials have appealed to vehicle owners, transport operators and the general public to comply with the revised traffic regulations to help ease congestion and ensure smoother movement of vehicles across the city.

Peak-Hour No-Entry Timings

  • Morning: 9:00 am to 11:00 am
  • Afternoon: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
  • Evening: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

During these hours, no exemptions will be granted, including for vehicles carrying entry passes.

Vehicles Covered Under the Ban

The restriction applies to all commercial and heavy vehicles, including:

  • Trucks
  • Hyva dump trucks
  • Pickup vehicles
  • Tractors
  • Concrete mixer trucks
  • Construction machinery
