Patna: Travelling on the Patna–Buxar National Highway (NH-922) has become more expensive after revised toll charges came into effect at the Kulharia Toll Plaza from August 1. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the revised rates apply to all categories of vehicles, including private cars, commercial vehicles, buses and heavy trucks.
The increase is part of the periodic revision of toll charges carried out by the highway authority. Motorists using the corridor will now have to pay more for both single and return journeys.
What Are the New Toll Rates?
According to the revised notification, the one-way toll fee for cars, jeeps and vans has increased from Rs 105 to Rs 110.
For vehicles making a return journey within 24 hours, the toll has been revised to Rs 165.
Officials also confirmed that monthly passes for local non-commercial vehicles have increased from Rs 350 to Rs 360.
Higher Charges for Commercial Vehicles
The revised toll rates also apply to commercial and heavy vehicles.
According to NHAI, higher charges have been introduced for:
- Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs)
- Mini-buses
- Buses
- Two-axle trucks
- Three-axle trucks
- Heavy vehicles with four to six axles
- Vehicles with seven or more axles
Officials said the increase across these categories is generally up to Rs 10, depending on the type of vehicle.
New Rates Effective From August 1
The revised toll collection began at the Kulharia Toll Plaza from August 1, with toll operators charging motorists according to the updated tariff.
According to NHAI, the revision follows the authority’s annual review of toll charges under existing regulations.
Commuters Raise Concerns Over Road Conditions
Some regular commuters on the Patna–Buxar NH-922 have expressed concerns that the increase comes despite ongoing issues on parts of the highway.
Motorists have cited road damage, encroachments and traffic congestion at several locations, which they say continue to affect travel time and fuel consumption. Commercial vehicle operators have also said the higher toll charges will add to operating costs.
Change in Toll Plaza Operator
According to reports, the operation of the Kulharia Toll Plaza has recently been awarded to a private company based in Chhattisgarh following a fresh tender process.
The revised toll rates have been implemented after the change in the operating agency. However, NHAI said toll revisions are based on established regulatory provisions and annual reviews, rather than changes in operators.
