Patna: An atmosphere of celebration has taken hold inside Beur Jail in Patna as inmates observe the Chaiti Chhath festival, with authorities making special arrangements for the occasion.
A total of 22 inmates, including 12 women, are observing the fast this year within the jail premises.
Arrangements inside jail
The pond within the prison complex has been cleaned and decorated to facilitate the offering of arghya by devotees. Jail officials have also provided new clothes and necessary puja materials to those observing the fast.
Jail superintendent Neeraj Kumar Jha said preparations had been made in advance to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.
“The pond has been thoroughly cleaned and adorned with colourful lights. The administration has provided the devotees with Chhath Puja materials as well as other essential items. Comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place.”
Officials said specific responsibilities had been assigned to staff, including the deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent, to ensure that the festival is conducted peacefully under security supervision.
Annual observance
Inmates at Beur Jail observe Chhath every year, with the administration organising arrangements for the festival.
Those observing the fast this year include women inmates Ranju Devi, Julie Devi, Meena Devi, Dolly Devi, Vandana Devi, Geeta Devi, Devanti Devi, Durga Devi, Parvati Devi, Ruby Devi and one transgender woman, along with male inmates Akhilesh Sah, Akhilesh Yadav, Mithlesh Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Rangbahadur Singh, Abhishek Kumar, Ranvir Kumar, Munna Kumar, Raj Kumar and Subodh Ram.
Officials said the arrangements aim to allow inmates to observe the festival in a structured and secure environment.
