Patna: Patna’s district administration has unveiled a new regulatory framework for coaching institutes and hostels, mandating police verification and compulsory registration in an effort to improve transparency and student safety. Authorities said the guidelines would be enforced strictly across the city.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting involving the district administration, police officials and representatives of various departments. The meeting was chaired by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kartikeya Sharma, who outlined a series of compliance measures for operators.
Under the new rules, all coaching institute and hostel operators must undergo mandatory police verification. Sharma said any failure to comply would invite strict legal action. Monitoring will be conducted at the police station level to ensure that institutions adhere to the directives.
Citing recent incidents, Sharma said the primary aim of the measures is to safeguard students. Operators will be required to submit complete records of students residing in hostels or enrolled in coaching centres to their respective local police stations. Institutions must also install functional CCTV cameras, maintain fire safety equipment, prominently display emergency contact numbers and ensure adequate security arrangements.
In addition, the administration has set a deadline of March for all coaching institutes and hostels to complete their registration process. Institutions that remain unregistered beyond the stipulated period will face legal consequences. Officials said the move is designed to create a more accountable system and provide a safer academic environment for students in Patna.
