Patna: Ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, the Patna Traffic Police has rolled out a special traffic management plan to ease congestion and ensure public safety during the festive shopping rush. The plan will be implemented on October 18 and 19, from 2 PM to 10 PM, across several major routes and market areas in the city.
The traffic diversion will affect vehicle movement in areas like Machhuatoli, Bari Path, Bakarganj, and Kadamkaun, where heavy pedestrian footfall is expected. Entry of vehicles into these zones will remain restricted, while some stretches will operate as one-way routes.
Emergency vehicles such as fire brigades, ambulances, and hearses will be exempted from these restrictions. Patna Police has also deployed additional personnel and set up strict checking points to maintain order during the festive season.
Diversions In Key Market Areas
Traffic will not be allowed from Machhuatoli to Bakarganj between 2 PM and 10 PM on both days. Similarly, movement from Bakarganj to Machhuatoli, Kadamkaun Mor to Chudi Market, and Thakurbari Mor will remain restricted. The step, officials said, is aimed at providing a safer and hassle-free environment for shoppers.
At Dinkar Golambar, diversions will be in place towards Sahitya Sammelan and Nala Road, with commercial goods vehicles barred from entering.
One-Way Traffic And Parking Arrangements
To keep traffic flowing smoothly, one-way systems will be implemented at City Centre Mall and Buddha Marg. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed between Chajju Bagh Mor and City Centre Mall, while autos and e-rickshaws will be diverted towards Chajju Bagh from the Buddha Marg side.
Vehicles exiting from Taj Hotel or City Centre Mall parking will have to turn left towards Naveen Police Centre, from where they can proceed to Ashok Rajpath or Marine Drive.
A dedicated parking lane has also been created along JP Ganga Path, from Digha Golambar to LCT Ghat, to manage the surge of four-wheelers during the festival.
Tight Security In Jewellery Markets And Banks
Given the surge in jewellery purchases during Dhanteras, Patna Police has increased surveillance around gold shops and banks. Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma said that heavy deployment of police personnel has been made in 12 major market zones, including Bakarganj, Boring Road, Kankarbagh, Patna City, Ashok Rajpath, Sabzibagh, and Station Road.
