Patna: A moving car was gutted by fire at the Digha roundabout in Patna on Friday evening, prompting a swift response from police and fire services and renewing concerns over a growing number of similar incidents across the city.
According to police, the vehicle was being driven by an assistant general manager (AGM) of a private company, who works in the Digha area. At around 6.30pm, while returning home to Vigrahpur in the Jakkanpur police station area, he noticed smoke rising from the engine as he reached the busy roundabout.
The driver immediately pulled over and stepped out of the car. By the time he attempted to arrange water to douse the smoke, flames had erupted and quickly spread through the vehicle. Local residents and traffic police from a nearby post rushed to the spot and tried to control the blaze using buckets of water.
A fire engine was called and reached the scene shortly afterwards, but by then the car had been completely engulfed. Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.
“The occupant managed to get out safely as soon as smoke started coming from the engine,” an officer from the Gandhi Maidan traffic police station said, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be established.
The incident is the latest in a series of car fires reported in and around Patna over the past few months. Police records show that in September 2025, a car caught fire in the Ganga Bridge police station area of Vaishali district. In November, another moving vehicle went up in flames on NH-20 in Nalanda.
December 2025 saw multiple incidents, including a doctor’s car catching fire on JP Ganga Path, a parked car burning in Raja Bazar, and several vehicles damaged by fire in the Gardanibagh police colony. In January 2026, fires were reported in Ramakrishna Nagar, near the airport, close to JP Setu in Digha, and even involving a moving ambulance on Atal Path.
More recently, in February 2026, a moving car caught fire on the Nehru Path flyover, followed by Friday’s incident at the Digha roundabout.
