Patna: Patna Divisional Commissioner, Mayank Warvade, has directed District Transport Officers across all six districts under the division to organise regular meetings of the District Road Safety Committee and Child Transport Committee to enhance road and child transport safety.

At a meeting held on Saturday at the Commissioner’s office, Warvade stressed that any compromise with the safety of citizens, especially children, would not be tolerated. He instructed officials to ensure strict compliance with road safety norms and to maintain readiness to meet revenue collection targets.

During the review, Warvade examined the progress of various schemes including the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Yojana and Mukhyamantri Block Parivahan Yojana, alongside issues such as vehicle registration, permit issuance, driver’s licensing, petrol pump renewals, pollution testing centres, and construction of bus stops in rural areas. A detailed report was presented by Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Patna Division.

He called for intensive and regular inspections of school vehicles to ensure compliance with safety guidelines. “The safety of children cannot be compromised. Strict legal action must be taken against any violations,” he said, urging active involvement of school managements, bus operators, parents, and the administration.

Warvade highlighted the importance of the Bihar Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Rules, 2020, which regulate school transport operations, and directed that training workshops be organised to raise awareness among stakeholders. “Our prime responsibility is to ensure that schoolchildren travel safely from home to school and back,” he said.

The Commissioner also instructed enforcement teams to run special drives against overloading, illegal vehicle operations, and violations of pollution norms. Noting progress in several areas, he said 316 out of 322 petrol pump renewals across the division had been completed, and praised Rohtas district for achieving 100% of its bus stop construction target.

Emphasising that efficient traffic management was critical for public welfare, Warvade urged coordination among departments such as police, urban development, NHAI, and road construction. He called for technology-driven solutions to manage parking, address traffic jams and accidents, remove encroachments, and enhance surveillance through CCTV installations.

“All officers must remain vigilant and work continuously towards building a safer, smoother transport system for the public,” he said.
