Patna: Durga Puja celebrations in Patna’s Kadamkuan will get a distinct Tamil Nadu touch this year, with the Sri Sri Navayuvak Durga Puja Committee preparing an 80-foot-tall pandal inspired by the Mahalakshmi Temple in Tamil Nadu.
The pandal is being constructed at Doman Bhagat Lane in Kadamkuan. Preparations have begun, with the committee planning elaborate decoration, lighting and sound arrangements for devotees during Durga Puja 2026.
80-Foot Pandal Inspired By Mahalakshmi Temple
The pandal will be approximately 80 feet high and 42 feet wide, according to the organisers. Environment-friendly materials will be used in its construction.
The design will be prepared by Kolkata-based artisan Vicky Mallik, while the structural construction will be carried out under the supervision of Patna-based Surendra Prasad.
Several decorative materials will also be brought from Kolkata for the pandal and the surrounding area.
Kolkata Artisans And Special Lighting
The committee has brought in artisans from Kolkata for the detailed decorative work. The organisers are planning lighting and sound arrangements designed to complement the temple-inspired theme.
Gopal Keshari will oversee the lighting and sound arrangements. The committee said the decoration will be designed to give the puja venue a distinctive appearance while retaining the visual elements of the chosen temple theme.
Around Rs 40 Lakh To Be Spent
The committee has estimated that around Rs 40 lakh will be spent on this year’s Durga Puja celebrations.
The expenditure will cover the pandal construction, decoration, lighting, sound arrangements, puja-related activities and other festival preparations.
21-Foot Bharat Mata Idol To Be Installed
Alongside the Durga Puja celebrations, a 21-foot-tall Bharat Mata idol will be installed at the venue. The idol will be made by Bittu Pandit.
Worship of Bharat Mata has been a longstanding part of the committee’s Durga Puja celebrations. The tradition will continue this year as well.
Puja Being Organised Since 1957
The Sri Sri Navayuvak Durga Puja Committee has been organising Durga Puja in the area since 1957. Over the years, the committee has developed several traditions associated with its annual celebrations.
Bharat Mata worship has been one of the distinctive features of the event. In earlier years, the committee also displayed satirical cartoons based on social and political themes. According to the committee, the practice was later discontinued following intervention by the government of the time.
