Patna: In the wake of recent fire incidents reported in hospitals, educational institutions and hotels across various states, a high-level meeting was held at SK Memorial Hall near Gandhi Maidan in Patna to strengthen fire safety measures and prevent accidents.
The meeting was chaired by DIG of Home Guards and Fire Services Manoj Kumar Nat and attended by operators of hospitals, hotels and coaching institutes. It focused on fire safety management, compliance and awareness among institutions.
Officials presented data showing that out of 241 identified hotels in the district, only 80 have fully complied with fire safety norms and have been issued fire safety certificates. The remaining 151 hotels were found to be partially compliant and have been given statutory directions to meet the required standards.
Focus on Hospitals and Coaching Institutes
Authorities also reviewed fire safety compliance in hospitals and coaching centres. Out of 513 hospitals inspected, 394 were found to be compliant with safety norms and have been issued certificates. However, 119 hospitals showed partial compliance and have been directed to meet all requirements within 30 days.
Similarly, 284 coaching institutes were inspected, of which 178 were found to be adhering to fire safety standards, while the rest have been instructed to take corrective measures.
Awareness and Preventive Measures
During the meeting, officials emphasised the need for institutions to prominently display emergency helpline numbers such as 101 and 112. They were also advised to conduct proper electrical load analysis, install minimum required fire safety systems, and carry out mock drills at least twice a year.
Authorities urged all institutions to regularly update their fire safety certifications through the Bihar Fire Services portal and ensure strict compliance to avoid potential hazards.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the state administration to enhance fire preparedness and minimise risks in densely populated public spaces.
