Patna: Patna has been brought to a standstill after ten hours of relentless rainfall submerged large parts of the city under up to four feet of water. Roads turned into rivers, homes were inundated, and transport networks faced widespread disruption on Monday morning.
Several key areas including Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Railway Station were left waterlogged, with up to two feet of water accumulating outside the stations. Train services were severely affected as tracks were submerged, while air traffic was also disrupted — flight 6E 2134 to Delhi was delayed by over an hour.
Khetan Market and Rajdhani Market, two of the city’s major commercial zones, were among the worst hit, with water levels reaching three to four feet. In low-lying residential areas such as Kankarbagh and Patna City, water entered homes, damaging property and forcing residents indoors. Images from the city showed household goods floating in the floodwaters.

Private vehicles were stranded on submerged roads and movement across the city came to a near halt. Outside key intersections like Dakbungla Crossing, stagnant water added to the chaos, prompting some private schools to shut for the day.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 27 districts in Bihar, warning of further rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. With the monsoon now active across the state, residents have been urged to remain cautious as authorities work to restore normalcy.
