Patna: The Patna district administration has moved to clarify that there are no restrictions on morning walks, evening walks, or individual and private running and jogging at Gandhi Maidan, amid confusion following the relocation of organised training camps from the city’s central public space.
Officials said the decision to shift coaching and training activities was taken solely in the public interest after a sharp rise in the number of institutions using Gandhi Maidan for group training. The number of such institutions had grown from 14 to around 60, leading to severe overcrowding and repeated complaints from residents about inconvenience.
In response, the administration relocated these organised training camps to Digha Ghat and Collectorate Ghat, where coaching institutions are now conducting physical training and preparation sessions for competitive examinations.
“The shift applies only to organised training camps run by institutions,” an official said. “There is absolutely no restriction on morning or evening walks, or on individuals who come to Gandhi Maidan for running or jogging.”
The administration stressed that Gandhi Maidan remains a vital public space meant for the general public and that access for personal fitness activities continues as before. Officials said the move was intended to restore balance at the Maidan, ensuring it remains accessible and comfortable for walkers, joggers and visitors.
The district administration added that it regularly undertakes beautification and development work at Gandhi Maidan, underscoring its role as one of Patna’s most important open spaces. Residents have been urged not to be misled by rumours and to continue using the Maidan freely for personal recreation and fitness.
