Patna: Two sisters from Jharkhand, who work as dancers, have alleged that they were gang raped by multiple men in Patna’s Naubatpur area after being taken to a village under the pretext of performing at a tilak ceremony.
Based on their complaint, Naubatpur police have registered an FIR against 13 individuals, including three named suspects. One accused has been taken into custody, while police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Victims Allege They Were Lured for Performance
According to the complaint, the incident took place on June 18. The sisters, residents of Latehar district in Jharkhand, were living in a rented accommodation in Patna’s Mithapur area.
The victims told police that they had been hired for Rs 8,000 to perform at a dance programme during a tilak ceremony in a village under the Naubatpur police station area.
The booking was allegedly arranged by Munna Kumar, a resident of Bhelura Rampur village, who took the sisters from Mithapur to the village on a scooter.
Allegations of Captivity and Sexual Assault
The women alleged that instead of taking them to the programme venue, Munna Kumar, along with his cousins Suraj Kumar and Bhanu Kumar and several others, forcibly took them to a secluded location.
According to the FIR, the accused allegedly kept the sisters captive and moved them between different locations, where they were sexually assaulted through the night.
The victims further alleged that they were physically assaulted when they attempted to escape and were threatened with death if they informed anyone about the incident.
Women Raised Alarm During Return Journey
According to police, the accused were allegedly taking the sisters back on the morning of June 19 when the women raised an alarm near the Phulwari Sharif area.
Local residents gathered after hearing their cries and informed police through the Dial-112 emergency service.
A Dial-112 team reached the spot, took the women into protective custody and brought them to the Phulwari Sharif police station. Naubatpur police were subsequently informed and took over the investigation.
Police Register Case Against 13 Accused
Given the seriousness of the allegations, Phulwari Sharif SDPO-2 Deepak Kumar visited the alleged crime scene. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also inspected the location and collected evidence.
Naubatpur Station House Officer Manjit Kumar Thakur said that an FIR had been registered against 13 individuals, including named accused Munna Kumar, Suraj Kumar and Bhanu Kumar.
One Suspect Detained, Search Continues
Police said one accused has been detained and is being questioned. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
The SHO said medical examinations of both women are being conducted and further legal proceedings will be initiated based on the findings. Their statements will also be recorded before a court as part of the investigation.
Police said raids are continuing at multiple locations to apprehend the absconding accused and that the investigation remains underway.
