Patna: With the Chhath festival approaching, preparations at Patna’s ghats have entered their final phase. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is carrying out large-scale cleaning, decoration, and lighting across all major ghats to ensure a smooth and safe celebration for devotees.
Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena inspected ghats across all six zones—from Nasriganj to Kangan Ghat—by SDRF boat on Tuesday. During his visit to major sites including Kali Ghat, Gai Ghat, Collectorate Ghat, Krishna Ghat, Mahendru Ghat, Bans Ghat, Digha Ghat, and Kurji Ghat, Meena reviewed ongoing works and directed officials to complete all arrangements on time. These include ensuring cleanliness, electricity supply, drinking water, approach roads, toilets, and safety measures.

To make navigation easier for devotees, hot air balloons will be installed at key Ganga ghats and directional signboards will be placed at various points. According to officials, this year’s Chhath celebrations will take place across 91 Ganga ghats and 61 ponds in the city.
In preparation for the festival, the following facilities are being set up:
- Changing rooms: 355
- Passenger sheds: 14
- Control rooms: 106
- Auxiliary control rooms: 13
- Watchtowers: 154
PMC has also announced that a Deepotsav and Ganga Aarti will be held at Patipul Ghat on Wednesday, October 22, at 6 pm. The event will include cultural performances led by folk singer and PMC brand ambassador Neetu Navgeet, with the aim of promoting cleanliness awareness among citizens.

Barricading along the ghats has been completed in several areas to ensure devotees’ safety during the rituals, while adjustments to the structures continue in accordance with water levels.
The corporation has deployed teams from NDRF, SDRF, PMC personnel, and sanitation workers to maintain safety and cleanliness throughout the celebrations. Zonal officers have been instructed to monitor the arrangements continuously and coordinate with the central control room.
