Patna: Heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorm swept through Patna on Wednesday afternoon, plunging parts of the city into darkness as thick storm clouds covered the sky.
Residents in several localities reported hailstones during the sudden downpour, while heavy rainfall was also recorded in districts including Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria and Khagaria.
Orange Alert Across Bihar
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for multiple districts, warning of thunderstorms, rain and lightning strikes.
Officials said weather conditions across Bihar have remained unstable over the past five days due to continuous atmospheric disturbances.
According to the meteorological department, the state recorded 89.7 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours — around 182% above the seasonal average.
Lightning Incidents Reported
In Raghopur, Supaul district, a woman was reportedly injured after being struck by lightning.
In Kishunpur, lightning killed several goats and damaged personal belongings, including a motorcycle and jewellery, local officials said.
Rain Likely Till May 7
Meteorologists said storm and rainfall activity is expected to continue across Bihar until May 7, after which weather conditions are likely to gradually improve.
For Patna, forecasts indicate partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and thunderstorms over the next three days.
