Patna: Heavy rain flooded many parts of Patna from Sunday night to Monday morning, causing waterlogging in streets, homes, and low-lying areas. In response, Bihar’s Urban Development Minister Jibesh Kumar held an urgent meeting on Tuesday and directed officials to clear all waterlogged areas within the next six hours.
The minister praised the efforts of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Budco officials, who had worked non-stop to remove water from most parts of the city. He asked the teams to use suction machines and pumps in low-lying areas and even bring in equipment from nearby towns if needed. Officials were also told to stay in the worst-hit areas until the situation was under control.
More than 364 pumps, including electric and diesel-powered machines, were used across Patna. These were placed at both permanent and temporary water pumping stations. Sensitive areas like Rajendra Nagar, Vidhan Sabha, Mithapur, and Gandhi Maidan were cleared within hours. The PMC also handled 348 complaints from the public through its helpline, all of which were resolved quickly, officials said.
To make sure the drainage system continued to work, 19 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) were deployed in all zones. Officers and engineers were on duty day and night. The government said residents can still call the 155304 helpline if there is any waterlogging near them. The minister assured that all flooded areas in Patna would be cleared as soon as possible.
