Patna: The Patna High Court has directed a retired police sub-inspector to transfer Rs 10,000 every month from his pension to his wife’s bank account and bear the marriage expenses of their three unmarried daughters in a matrimonial dispute.
The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justice Vivek Chaudhary and Justice Rana Vikram Singh while disposing of a case that had been pending before the court since 2021.
Wife Challenged Divorce Order
The case originated from a Bhagalpur court order granting a divorce in favour of the husband. The wife, Suchitra Devi, challenged the order before the Patna High Court in 2021.
During the proceedings, the court gave the couple an opportunity to reach a settlement with the assistance of their lawyers. When the attempt failed, the matter was referred to the Lok Adalat.
The dispute subsequently returned to the High Court.
Husband Cited Broken Leg
During the latest proceedings, advocate Deepak Kumar Sinha, appearing for Suchitra Devi, told the court that the husband had stopped paying the previously ordered Rs 10,000 monthly amount from February.
The wife told the court that the absence of the payment had made it difficult for her to meet her own expenses and those of her three unmarried daughters.
The husband, Dinesh Singh, through his lawyer, cited a broken leg sustained in an accident as the reason for his inability to make the monthly payment.
The division bench, however, directed that the financial support to the wife should continue regularly.
Monthly Pension Transfer Ordered
The court directed that Rs 10,000 be automatically transferred every month from Singh’s pension account to his wife’s bank account, with the arrangement intended to ensure that she has regular financial support for her day-to-day needs.
The court also placed responsibility for the marriage expenses of the couple’s three unmarried daughters on Singh.
Dinesh Singh is a retired sub-inspector. With the directions on monthly pension payments and the daughters’ marriage expenses, the High Court disposed of the case that had remained pending since 2021.
