Patna: Patna witnessed a warm and emotional evening on February 8, when four senior doctors were honoured for their dedication to healthcare and society. The Dr. K.K. Sharan Memorial Doctor’s Award Ceremony was organised by Public Awareness for a Healthful Approach for Living (PAHAL) at Hotel Sarvodaya, Rajendra Path. The event aimed to recognise doctors who have not only achieved excellence in their fields but have also served patients with compassion, honesty, and commitment. Many doctors, social workers and guests attended the ceremony, making it a memorable occasion.
The award was given to Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at AIIMS Patna; Dr Manoj Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery at AIIMS Patna; Dr Amar Kumar Singh, a senior and well-known radiologist; and Dr Sharika Rai, a respected gynaecologist and obstetrician. Each of them received a memento and shawl from Padma Shri awardee Dr Shanti Rai and paediatrician Dr Kiran Sharan. The audience warmly applauded as the doctors were honoured for their years of service and contribution to healthcare.
Dr Diwakar Tejaswi, Medical Director of PAHAL, spoke about the achievements of the award winners. He said Dr Sanjeev Kumar is known across the country for his skill in heart surgery and his patient-friendly approach. Under his leadership, the cardiothoracic department at AIIMS Patna has grown rapidly. He also praised Dr Manoj Kumar for his dedication to teaching and patient care, calling him an inspiration to young doctors. Dr Tejaswi added that Dr Amar Kumar Singh is respected for his accurate diagnosis and use of modern imaging techniques, which have helped in treating thousands of patients. He also highlighted Dr Sharika Rai’s important work in women’s health, especially in ensuring safe deliveries and spreading awareness about maternal care.
The programme also remembered the late Dr K.K. Sharan, in whose name the awards are given. Former Rotary Club president Dr Shankarnath described him as a skilled and disciplined ENT doctor who served people with honesty. Dr Himanshu Roy, President of PAHAL, spoke about the organisation’s efforts in health awareness and social service. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Nandini Sharan. Many dignitaries, including Dr Alok Abhijit, Prof Nalini Ranjan Kumar and Dr Deepika Tejaswi, were present. The ceremony left everyone with a sense of pride and respect for the doctors who continue to serve society selflessly.
