Patna: Major hospitals in Patna Medical College and Hospital, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna have been placed on high alert ahead of Holi, with more than 85 beds reserved for festival-related emergencies and an emergency helpline released, authorities have said.
The hospitals in Patna strengthened emergency services and cancelled doctors’ leave as special wards were prepared for potential injuries linked to the celebrations. Senior administrators said ophthalmology, orthopaedics and plastic surgery teams would remain on duty from March 3 to 5 to deal with cases such as eye injuries, fractures and burns – common during the festival.
Officials at PMCH and IGIMS insisted there would be “no laxity” in emergency care. AIIMS Patna has added 20 extra beds in its trauma centre to speed treatment for serious cases, while ambulances have been deployed across the city for rapid medical response.
Hospitals confirmed adequate stocks of essential medicines and ventilators to treat patients during the critical “golden hour” after injury. The civil surgeon’s office will remain operational, and health authorities urged residents to handle colours cautiously and seek immediate medical help if complications arise.
Emergency contacts released by the administration are: PMCH 06122300080, IGIMS 9473191807 and AIIMS Patna 06122451070. Officials said the measures aim to reduce strain on services during the festivities and ensure swift treatment for anyone requiring medical assistance.
