Patna: In a significant development in the death of a NEET aspirant staying at Shambhu Girls Hostel, investigators from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have questioned the hostel’s owner and two wardens as part of an expanding inquiry. The interrogation, conducted in Patna, lasted around 90 minutes, with officials examining multiple aspects of the incident. Statements were also taken from the hostel’s security guard.
According to officials, investigators sought detailed accounts regarding the timeline of events leading to the student’s death, the responsibilities of hostel management, and the adequacy of safety and surveillance arrangements. The three women were briefly taken by the agency following questioning but were released after submitting written undertakings to cooperate and appear whenever required for further inquiry.
The CBI team conducted an extensive inspection of the student’s room amid tight security arrangements, with police personnel deployed inside and outside the premises to manage crowds. Investigators examined personal belongings, electronic devices and other potential evidence, while also documenting the scene through photographs and official records. Hostel authorities were present during the inspection process.
The agency also questioned the hostel guard, Amrendra, who was reportedly the first to reach the scene and assist in bringing the student downstairs after the incident. Earlier, investigators recorded nearly four hours of statements from the student’s mother and grandmother in Jehanabad and subsequently visited her maternal home in Gaya to gather testimonies from other relatives. Officials said the probe remains ongoing as the agency continues to assemble evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
