Hajipur/Patna: A violent clash over a land dispute in the Bhagwanpur police station area, in Vaishali district of Bihar, resulted in an Income Tax Department official and his relative being seriously injured by gunfire. The victims were rushed to Hajipur Hospital for specialized treatment after sustaining multiple bullet injuries.
The injured have been identified as Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Rampur Bakhra and a superintendent with the Income Tax Department in Patna, and his brother-in-law, Rakesh, a resident of Samastipur.
Land Fencing Triggers Violence
The incident occurred when Dheeraj Kumar was fencing his land near his residence. The opposing party arrived and immediately objected to the construction, leading to a heated argument. The confrontation quickly escalated when a member of the opposing group opened fire.
According to initial reports, Dheeraj Kumar and Rakesh were both shot multiple times. One of the victims sustained three gunshot wounds, while the other was hit twice. Following the shooting, family members admitted the injured to the Primary Health Center in Bhagwanpur. Due to the severity of the injuries, they were subsequently referred to the Hajipur Hospital for advanced medical care.
Police Recover Weapon, Detain Three
The police reached the scene shortly after the incident and secured the area. They have recovered a licensed firearm, one live cartridge, and a spent cartridge.
Sadar SDPO-2, Lalganj, Gopal Mandal, confirmed the details of the investigation, stating, “There was a land dispute between the two families. This incident was fueled by that dispute, resulting in two people being injured by gunfire. The FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team is also conducting a technical and scientific investigation. Three people have been detained and are currently being questioned in connection with the firing.”
