Patna: Gandhi Maidan in Patna will remain closed to the general public from August 1 to 14 as authorities ramp up preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Patna district magistrate Dr. Thiagrajan SM conducted a detailed inspection of the site, outlining the security and logistical measures being implemented for the event.
The main Independence Day function, where the chief minister will hoist the national flag, will take place at Gandhi Maidan. A total of 13 tableaux highlighting welfare and development schemes of the Bihar government have been finalised, with more possibly being added.
The venue will be under extensive surveillance, monitored by 128 CCTV cameras and 18 watchtowers. A temporary police station and control room will also be set up to ensure safety. Lighting arrangements include 15 high masts, 136 LED metal lights, 229 poles, 56 decorative fixtures, and 28 pathway lights.
Special sanitation and drainage measures will be undertaken by the municipal corporation. Practice sessions for the parade will run from August 1 to 13. A temporary medical centre, ambulances, doctors, and essential medicines will be on-site throughout the event. Fire brigades will also be deployed.
Traffic diversions are planned for August 15, and an anti-sabotage inspection of all vehicles will be carried out by the special branch. Officials have been assigned specific roles, with instructions issued to complete all remaining arrangements by August 15.
