Patna: Preparations are underway for a grand Independence Day celebration in Patna, with the main flag-hoisting ceremony set to take place at Gandhi Maidan. This year, the district administration is building a new waterproof audience gallery with a seating capacity for approximately 25,000 people, ensuring the event can proceed smoothly even in case of rain.
The district administration has finalized plans to distribute 5,000 invitation cards to ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior officials, freedom fighters, and other dignitaries. A significant part of the celebration will also extend to the community level, with flag-hoisting ceremonies organized in 500 Mahadalit-Dalit-dominated villages across the district. In these villages, the oldest person from the community will have the honor of hoisting the national flag.
District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan S.M. has reviewed the preparations and directed all sub-divisional and block development officers to ensure a smooth and successful event.
Enhanced Security Measures at Gandhi Maidan
For the first time, stringent security measures will be implemented at Gandhi Maidan. The entire event will be monitored through 128 CCTV cameras, with 49 cameras already installed around the perimeter and 79 inside the premises. To oversee operations, the entire ground has been divided into four zones, each led by a senior ADM-level officer.
A temporary police station has been set up, and security will be managed from 18 watchtowers. To enhance the aesthetic appeal of the venue, Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) has installed 56 decorative lights at various locations around Gandhi Maidan.
