Patna: Patna Junction is set to roll out an airport-style premium parking facility from January 27, as part of efforts to modernise passenger amenities at one of Bihar’s busiest railway stations.
The new parking area, located near the Mahavir Temple at the junction, has been developed on the lines of premium parking systems commonly seen at airports. Railway officials say the initiative is aimed at easing congestion and improving the overall parking experience for commuters and visitors.
Under the new system, vehicles entering and exiting the parking area will be issued electronic slips. These will record real-time entry and exit data, with parking charges calculated automatically based on the duration of stay. An electronic boom barrier has been installed to regulate vehicle movement and ensure smoother traffic flow.
A “pick and drop” facility has also been introduced, allowing vehicles to park free of charge for up to eight minutes. All parking fees include GST.
Abhinav Siddharth, senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) of the Danapur division, said the railway authorities were focused on providing better facilities for passengers. “This premium parking facility at Patna Junction is similar to what passengers experience at airports,” he said, adding that it reflected a broader push to upgrade station infrastructure.
For four-wheelers, parking will be free for the first eight minutes. Charges thereafter will be Rs 80 for up to two hours, Rs 200 for six hours, Rs 350 for 12 hours, Rs 400 for 24 hours, and Rs 500 per day for stays beyond 24 hours.
Two-wheelers will also enjoy the first eight minutes free. Parking fees have been set at Rs 20 for up to two hours, Rs 25 for six hours, Rs 30 for 12 hours, Rs 40 for 24 hours, and Rs 50 per day for more than 24 hours. A monthly pass for two-wheelers will cost Rs 1,000.
In an additional convenience for riders, the parking facility will offer helmet storage at a charge of Rs 10 for 24 hours.
The premium parking system will become fully operational from January 27, marking a significant change in how parking is managed at Patna Junction.
