Patna: Railway authorities have introduced a QR code-based entry system and enhanced security measures at Patna Junction in an effort to improve crowd management and strengthen passenger safety.
Under the new system, passengers must scan their QR code tickets at designated entry gates before being allowed into the station premises. Officials said individuals without valid tickets will not be permitted to access the platforms.
The initiative introduces a metro-style entry system at one of Bihar’s busiest railway stations, where large crowds frequently gather.
As part of the new measures, passengers’ luggage will also be checked at entry points using scanning machines installed at the station. Railway officials said the equipment is similar to security scanners used at airports and metro stations and can quickly detect suspicious items.
Authorities believe the system will help prevent unauthorised entry and improve overall security inside the station complex.
To further strengthen surveillance, an extensive network of CCTV cameras has been installed across Patna Junction. Cameras placed at key locations throughout the station are monitored through a central control room, enabling security personnel to respond quickly to any suspicious activity.
Railway officials said ticket checking has also been intensified across the station premises.
Teams of travelling ticket examiners (TTEs), led by the chief ticket inspector, are conducting regular inspections from entry gates to platforms. Passengers found travelling without valid tickets are being fined.
Officials said the stricter enforcement is also expected to increase railway revenue by reducing ticketless travel.
The railway administration has appealed to passengers to cooperate with the new system by ensuring they carry valid tickets, allowing their luggage to be scanned and promptly informing railway police about any suspicious activity inside the station.
