Patna: The health department in Bihar has issued fresh instructions to districts to intensify dengue prevention measures, including fogging and anti-larvae spraying, as temperatures rise across the state.
In a directive issued from Patna, officials asked district administrations, municipal bodies and health authorities to remain vigilant and take timely action to prevent a possible spike in dengue cases during the summer months.
Authorities have been instructed to identify vulnerable areas, particularly neighbourhoods that reported a high number of dengue infections in previous years. Regular fogging operations will be carried out in such locations, alongside anti-larvae spraying to prevent mosquito breeding.
The department said different arrangements have been put in place for urban and rural areas. In towns and cities, dengue control measures will be implemented by municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats. In rural areas, health department teams will conduct fogging and anti-larvae spraying.
Officials have also been asked to coordinate closely with the Urban Development Department to ensure effective implementation of the prevention campaign across both urban and rural regions.
District magistrates have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring the drive. They have been instructed to review the progress of the campaign regularly and issue additional directions if required.
Health department data from the past two years shows higher dengue cases in districts such as Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Vaishali, Samastipur and Bhagalpur. Authorities in these districts have therefore been asked to maintain heightened vigilance and intensify preventive measures.
Public health experts say waterlogging during the summer and monsoon seasons increases the risk of mosquito breeding, raising the likelihood of dengue transmission. Officials say timely preventive action will be key to limiting the spread of the disease.
