Patna: Residents of Bihar’s capital will soon be able to experience a bridge reminiscent of Uttarakhand’s famous Laxman Jhula, as the Nitish Kumar-led government has approved the construction of a new cable suspension bridge over the Punpun river.
The bridge, to be located near the Pinddaan Sthal, adjacent to the existing railway bridge, received administrative clearance in a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The ambitious project, costing nearly Rs 83 crore, will feature a total length of 320 metres, including the suspension and viaduct sections, and a width of 11.5 metres. Approach roads on either side will extend 115 metres, easing access for devotees performing Pinddaan, who previously faced time-consuming and challenging river crossings.
Designed for pedestrians and light four-wheel vehicles, the bridge is expected to facilitate rescue operations and will serve as a new tourist and cultural attraction. Local businesses, including hotels and shops, are likely to benefit from the increased footfall.
Officials hope the bridge will not only improve connectivity but also enhance Patna’s tourism profile, drawing devotees, photographers, and travellers in large numbers.
