Patna: Vehicle owners with e-challans pending for more than 90 days will get an opportunity to settle them at a 50% payment during the National Lok Adalat on September 12.
The initiative is being conducted across Bihar under the One-Time Traffic Challan Settlement Scheme-2026, with the Transport Department and traffic police coordinating the exercise.
Challans Can Be Deposited From September 7
Vehicle owners can approach their nearest District Transport Office (DTO) between September 7 and September 11 to submit eligible challans in advance.
The arrangement is intended to make the settlement process easier on the day of the Lok Adalat.
Lok Adalat In Patna On September 12
In Patna, the Lok Adalat will be held at Gandhi Maidan and the Civil Court on September 12.
The scheme aims to speed up the disposal of long-pending traffic violation cases and provide vehicle owners an opportunity to clear eligible dues.
Which Challans Are Eligible?
The scheme covers violations related to pollution certificates, vehicle insurance, fitness certificates, driving licences and vehicle registration.
It also covers traffic violations such as riding without a helmet, not wearing a seat belt, using a mobile phone while driving, overspeeding and jumping red lights.
Eligible cases can be settled by paying 50% of the applicable penalty. However, challans related to overloading are excluded from the scheme.
More Than 20,000 Challans Settled In May
More than 20,000 challans were settled at 50% of the applicable amount during the National Lok Adalat held in May, according to the Transport Department.
The exercise generated around Rs 5 crore in collections.
Transport Secretary Urges Compliance With Traffic Rules
Transport Department Secretary Raj Kumar urged vehicle owners to use the opportunity to settle their eligible pending challans.
He also appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules, including wearing helmets and seat belts and adhering to prescribed speed limits.
