Patna: The expansion of the Patna Metro is approaching a crucial milestone, with authorities confirming that preparations for operations on the eastern corridor are in their final stages. The new stretch will connect Patliputra Bus Terminal to Zero Mile and extend further to Malahi Pakri, significantly widening the reach of the city’s rapid transit network.
At present, metro services are operational between the Bus Stand and Zero Mile, extending up to Khemnichak. Trial runs and safety procedures on the Bhootnath–Malahi Pakri section are being fast-tracked. Officials indicated that services on the new stretch could begin within days, offering long-awaited relief to commuters in eastern Patna who routinely face traffic congestion and lengthy travel times.
A team of senior officials conducted a comprehensive inspection of the stations earmarked for the extension. Entry and exit points, pump rooms, basement areas, concourse levels and platforms were examined in detail to ensure compliance with operational standards. Particular attention was paid to passenger amenities and technical systems.
Fire safety verification formed a key component of the inspection. Authorities reviewed fire-fighting equipment, alarm systems, emergency exits and ventilation mechanisms to ensure readiness in the event of an emergency. The process marks the final stage of mandatory safety clearance before operations can begin.
The next step will involve inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), after which a No Objection Certificate (NOC) may be issued. Once clearance is granted, metro services on the new corridor can formally commence. The Patna Metro administration said preparations have been completed in line with the highest standards of passenger safety, reliability and modern urban transport infrastructure.
